Disappearance of Haruhi Film Release Date Announced!!!

As many of you may recall, the final episode of Haruhi’s second season contained an announcement for the upcoming Disappearance Of Haruhi Suzumiya film. Now, it seems as if the film will be premiering on Feburary 6, 2010, earlier than most fans expected. Unfortunately, English-speaking Haruhiists will have to wait longer to see their goddess disappear, unless they have easy access to a Japanese theater

It’s time for more Disappearance of Haruhi Suzumiya news! The official website for the film has confirmed that Haruhi will disappear for 150 minutes, on the previously announced date of Feb 4 2010. Yup, you read that correctly; the Haruhi film’s running time is two and a half hours… approximately equal to seven episodes of the TV series.

The few fans Haruhi has left are quite excited by this news. Running time was one of the major concerns upon the initial announcement of the movie; many were fearful that the plot of the original novel would be condensed to fit the length of the film. That concern has been mostly alleviated by this announcement. It would seem as if Kyoani is trying as hard as they can to please their remaining fanbase.

Can this film restore Haruhi to it’s former glory? I’m still skeptical, but I’m willing to give it a chance.

People want a Persona 4 anime most of all!

Many games get their own anime series adaptations, which in practice usually turn out better than the average game-to-film transition. Online magazine Dengeki polled its readers as to which game they’d most like to see as an anime, and Atlus’ RPG Persona 4 topped the list.

That’s a great thing, since I’m a big fat Persona fanboy, but other worthy games followed in the rankings:

The new TV series just ended, wrapping up with the announcement that the next Haruhi film, The Disappearance of Haruhi Suzumiya, would open in Japan in the Spring of 2010. There’s no details on the film yet, but they’re going to pop up eventually on the show’s official webpage.

This means that we’ll see it even later. It almost feels pointless to talk about it this early, actually. But news is news, you know.

The more I see of the Vocaloid craze, the more interested I get in this madness, and the latest promo video for the upcoming Yamakan-produced Black Rock Shooter anime is looking pretty good.

Created by artist HUKE, Black Rock Shooter is a fan-made character based on Hatsune Miku, one that has a flaming eye and wields a big “Rock Cannon” rocket launcher on her left arm.

The anime will be produced by Ordet, the studio founded by Yamakan following his departure. It’ll be interesting to see how this turns out. I wonder if she’ll be added into future Vocaloid productions?

Best Buy anime shelf space shrinks even more!!!

I Went to best buy today and i saw one self of anime dvd’s. One shelf ? That’s it? Everything from Ah! My Goddess to Yu Yu Hakusho was worked into the space of one rack width. That’s only six shelves of anime. For comparison for this particular store, which is in a fairly affluent neighborhood, anime selection was about 3 rack widths before this, and last year it was more than double that, alot more.

The above image may not be exactly from your local Best Buy location, but I’m seeing the same trend in multiple stores. Best Buy doesn’t love anime fans anymore.

Where else can we shop? Are there any good alternatives left for people that like to pick up the box and read it? Or are we stuck with online only now?

What is Anime?

Just what is anime? And why all the fuss?

Anime is actually a shortened version of the word “animation” and refers to the distinctly unique Japanese animation. Like any other type of tv shows and movies, anime has its own set of genres, demographics and even ratings. Unlike American cartoons, anime is not specifically for young children only. Quite the contrary, there is an entire anime subset devoted only to older viewers +18, as well as all the maturity levels in between. Anime has a large audience in Japan and high recognition throughout the world.

What Got Me Into Anime?

What got me into anime was how the character definition are, the personalities, how funny the expressions were, and the action was great… It attracted my attention because I loved the way it was in japanese for some reason, I loved the detail, and it was unusal to see =].
